Dental Implants

What is a dental implant?

You have lost one or several teeth and would like a fixed solution. We can place a titanium implant securely into the bone in place of the tooth root. We may then attach a crown, bridge or denture onto the top.

Traditional methods for replacing teeth for instance include dentures and bridgework. Both of these however have their own drawbacks. Dentures have the potential to be loose and as a result may cause embarrassment. Dental bridgework can be destructive to adjacent teeth and as a result make them weaker. Replacing missing teeth with implants will provide a fixed solution which consequently preserves surrounding bone.

Dental Implants transmit the force of chewing to the jaw bone, and as a result help to conserve it. In the case of dentures or conventional bridges, the bone gradually reduces. Therefore this can change your facial expression and appearance.

Our 3 Step Process

Strategic planning is an important step in the phase of any treatment. Below outlines our 3 step Dental Implant plan.

Consultation

Firstly we must evaluate your case from the clinical history, analysis of the oral scenario and with additional examinations we may deem necessary. Above all it is important to evaluate each case to find the best solution.

Assessments & Planning

We will place one or more implants surgically. Depending on your circumstances, we will consequently assess whether to restore the tooth immediately or not.

The stitches are generally removed around fourteen days after surgery. Based on your medical circumstances, we will assess how much time will be required for healing. Consequently this may vary from six weeks to several months.

Once integration is complete, we will assess the best way to restore your tooth. This depends on the anatomical characteristics of the bone bed, where the implant will be placed. The tooth may be restored on the day of surgery (immediate loading) or after a period of bone regeneration. This stage requires modelling and the production of a model of your mouth. The laboratory need this to create your prosthesis. To achieve success, it may be necessary to conduct one or more trials before finalising the treatment.

Aftercare

Implant treatment does not end when the prosthesis is placed. It is very important to follow your dentists instructions on cleaning as well as attending all of the check-ups. This is the only way to ensure your implant treatment is durable over the long term.
