Facial Aesthetics

What Are Facial Aesthetics?

This term describes the non-surgical treatments we offer here at the practice to rejuvenate the face and reduce signs of ageing. These treatments can soften wrinkles, contour the face and define certain facial features. We do this through dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections and skin treatments such as Profhilo.

Who is Facial Aesthetics for?

You must be over the age of 18, not currently pregnant or breastfeeding, and your medical history will be assessed for your suitability for treatment. For example, you may be unsuitable for treatment if you have certain blood or nervous system disorders, muscular disease such as Bell’s Palsy, take medications especially those which affect blood clotting or beta-blockers, or have psychological concerns. This will all be discussed at your consultation, which is mandatory for all patients prior to treatment.

Meet Dr Rachel

Dr Rachel is qualified as a Dental Surgeon from Leeds University in 2006. As part of this course she gained an in depth knowledge of the anatomy of the head and neck, medicine and pharmaceuticals.

As a practicing dentist Rachel spends her days performing intricate work inside the mouth and perfecting smiles. It therefore felt like a natural progression to enter the world of facial aesthetics which she thoroughly enjoys.

Aesthetic Training

Dr Rachel is trained to be a facial aesthetician with ‘Cosmetic Course’. This is the UK’s largest facial aesthetics training provider and they only train medical professionals such as doctors, dentists and nurses. I fully agree with their belief that facial aesthetics treatment should enhance NOT change the way a person looks.

Dr Dhara is by far the best, most professional aesthetic treatment service I’ve ever had. She is exceptionally thorough and gives you every confidence she knows what she is doing. I’m delighted with the results, I felt listened to and she knew exactly what I needed to solve an issue I’d had with previous results administered elsewhere. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Frequently Asked Questions

Why see my dentist for facial aesthetics treatments?

We advocate seeing a medical professional for any facial aesthetics treatments, as they are medical procedures – you can be rest assured that we prioritise cross infection control and cleanliness in our clinical environment, to ensure your safety and very best care.

Dr Dhara has completed extensive training in facial aesthetics, and as a dentist has a comprehensive knowledge of the facial anatomy which is the solid foundation for providing facial aesthetics treatments. Dentists undergo extensive training for 5 years at university, and have intimate knowledge of the muscles, nerves and movements of the face which must work together harmoniously – changing one element can affect the movement of another.

Dr Dhara has an aesthetic eye and can analyse the face to plan suitable treatments that always look natural; this goes hand in hand with smile design to enhance the end results of any dental treatment you may be having. As a skilled injector, it is second nature for her to make patients as comfortable as possible during treatments. Dr Dhara also has the appropriate training to be able to deal with any complications and medical emergencies that may occur, and as a prescriber holds stock of all emergency drugs – your safety is our priority.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based gels that can be injected into certain areas of the face to restore hydration and lost volume that can occur with ageing, or to enhance, define and rejuvenate facial features.

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Commonly referred to as ‘botox’ or muscle relaxing injections. This is a prescription only treatment, which works by relaxing certain muscles in the face and neck. With facial expression, multiple muscles contract and relax, causing the overlying skin to crease and fold, creating wrinkles. The anti-wrinkle treatment uses botulinum toxin, a muscle relaxer, to prevent movement of the muscles – this results in the muscles underneath the skin to become smoother, and in turn the overlying skin smoothes out too, reducing wrinkles. Botulinum toxin can also block the nerve signals responsible for sweating, so can be used to treat conditions such as hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid based injectable treatment, but it does not add volume to the injected areas. Instead, it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin in the skin, and overtime this creates a tightening and hydrating effect, improving skin texture and radiance and reducing wrinkles. It can be used in the face, neck, décolletage and hands.
